Why chose UCLH Private Healthcare’s gastroenterology service?

Our private gastroenterologists are experts in their field. They are all skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of all gastrointestinal issues including diseases of the oesophagus (gullet), stomach, small and large intestines (bowel), liver, gall bladder and pancreas. Each of our gastroenterologists have particular expertise in endoscopy, colonoscopy, and endoscopic therapy through minimally invasive procedures to treat conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s diseases, ulcerative colitis, coeliac disease, dysphagia, and dysplasia. They are also experts in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal cancers.

Our private gastroenterologists work within the endoscopy unit at UCLH, which is one of the largest units in the UK, performing over 17,000 NHS procedures a year.

Our facilities include eight state-of-the-art endoscopy rooms and a 16-bay recovery area.

We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality diagnostic, screening, and surveillance endoscopy, as well as being experts in therapeutic endoscopy. We have one of the largest upper gastrointestinal (GI) therapeutic endoscopy services in the UK, offering cutting-edge procedures to our patients.

As we are part of a large teaching hospital, UCLH’s endoscopy unit has an ongoing academic and research programme in this field, with some of the UK’s leading experts managing the service. Our location in a muti-speciality hospital setting also means our patients have ready access to treatment options where necessary as well as support services including radiology and anaesthetics. We are a JAG accredited unit, which means we have passed the highest possible standards of service and patient safety.

UCLH’s private gastroenterology service offers speedy assessment at short notice, an appointment time to suit you, the option to choose between video and telephone conference calls when clinically appropriate, and a competitive and affordable price.

What is an endoscopy procedure?

Endoscopy is a technique where an an instrument called an endoscope - a long, thin, flexible tube with a camera and light at one end - is inserted through the mouth into the stomach (gastroscopy) to look at the oesophagus (food pipe), stomach and parts of the small intestine. Alternatively, it can be inserted through the bottom and into the large bowel (colonoscopy).

An endoscopy can be used as a diagnostic procedure to investigate symptoms, to take samples of tissue (a biopsy) or to carry out therapeutic procedures.

We offer endoscopy, gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy privately at UCLH.
